SELF DISCLOSURE ORANG DENGAN HIV/AIDS (ODHA) KEPADA KELUARGA DI FORUM KOMUNITAS PEDULI BATANG KABUPATEN BATANG

Abstract

Self disclosure is the process of revealing personal information to others related to feelings, values, and opinions, whether hidden or not. Individuals who are close to others tend to share information about their behavior and personal qualities. This study aims to explore the process of self disclosure by PLWHA to their families in the Forum Komunitas Pedulli Batang, Batang Regency, using a descriptive qualitative approach. The sample was taken using purposive sampling, namely three PLWHA who have engaged in self-disclosure and meet the criteria of having disclosed their HIV status to family members. The data collection techniques used include 1) in-depth interviews, 2) observation, and 3) documentation study. The validity of the data in this study was examined using prolonged observation, source triangulation, technique triangulation, and time triangulation. The informants obtained were three PLWHA, three families, and one accompanying PLWHA informant. Various characteristics of the PLWHA informants were obtained, such as the length of HIV status, the cause of HIV infection, and relationship with family. The research results indicate that the breadth aspect of self disclosure by PLWHA to their families reflects a diverse understanding of HIV/AIDS among them. They share the known information with their family to persuade them of their HIV status and to apprise them of the necessary care. The depth aspect, shows the information shared by PLWHA is categorized as vulnerable, expressing deep feelings to gain empathy from the family, leading to acceptance and receiving emotional and practical support from the family. The target-person aspect shows that PLWHA tend to disclose to certain family members who have a closer relationship and a non-judgmental attitude. The recommendation based on the results of this study is proposes a program Education Counseling and Disclosing HIV Status safely to eliminate stigma within the family and ensure that PLWHA feel safe.
